SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- About 200 people in Puerto Rico have gathered in a financial district dubbed "The Golden Mile" to protest capitalism and government cuts as part of worldwide demonstrations.

The gathering in the capital of San Juan was one of dozens of global protests launched Saturday in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

The spokesman for Puerto Rico's event says some participants plan to camp out in a lush public park for an indefinite amount of time.

Miguel Lozada says the group also will consider future marches to demand a wide array of changes, such as the creation of more jobs.

Protesters include university students, housewives and the president of the island's Association of Physicians and Surgeons.
